FanDuel Sportsbook at MotorCity Casino-Hotel in Detroit has undergone a renovation that has resulted in a “world-class VIP room to better serve its customers,” according to a press release.

The new addition to the two-story retail sportsbook accounts for 1,100 square feet of space to accommodate up to 25 individuals. The room is furnished with 15 HDTVs, a bar, and leather lounge seating.

The upgrade is indicative of the competitive battle for sports betting patrons among Detroit’s three casinos — MotorCity, MGM Grand Detroit, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown. BetMGM Sportsbook Lounge is located at MGM Grand Detroit, while Barstool Sportsbook is located at Hollywood Casino.

VIP room a differentiator?

Each of the three Detroit-based sportsbooks provides a unique experience that caters to differing sports crowds. But they all hold some allure as draws for fans of Detroit’s Tigers, Pistons, Red Wings, and Lions, as well as the Michigan and Michigan State athletic teams. The FanDuel Sportsbook VIP room gives MotorCity Casino a leg up with regard to drawing fans interested in getting together at the brick-and-mortar facility, particularly on major sports days like the Super Bowl or during March Madness.

FanDuel Michigan Sportsbook is the most spacious of the three books, offering customers two floors to choose from for viewing sporting events on nearly 70 HDTVs. It offers eight betting windows and 54 self-service betting kiosks, as well as a sports ticker.

FanDuel Sportsbook is open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight.

Overall, BetMGM Sports Lounge and Barstool Sportsbook at Hollywood Casino at Greektown have fewer amenities than FanDuel Sportsbook at MotorCity Casino. BetMGM Sports Lounge offers 35 self-service kiosks, 60 HDTVs, and 14 bar-top video poker machines. Barstool Sportsbook has 40 self-service kiosks for placing bets, 25 HDTVs, and a 30-foot video wall in the primary area designated for viewing sporting events. Hollywood Casino also offers an additional room with more than a dozen HDTVs.
