At the risk of mixing cliched statements, two out of three ain’t bad when it comes to smoke ‘em if you got ‘em, as a pair of Detroit casinos have relaxed their no-smoking rules that were imposed when the pandemic began in 2020.

Beginning next Wednesday, smokers at MGM Grand Detroit will have the opportunity to light up in certain areas of the casino, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press.

‘Smoking Slots East and Smoking Slots West’ are the only permitted smoking areas in the casino,” the paper reported from a press release. “Doors have been added to minimize the impact across the casino floor. All other indoor spaces will continue to be non-smoking, and our outdoor smoking patio will remain in place.”

The Free Press reported that at the Hollywood Casino at Greektown, smoking is only permitted on the second floor of the establishment.

The third Detroit casino, MotorCity Casino Hotel, still does not allow indoor smoking anywhere on its property.

Like in New Jersey and a handful of other states, Michigan law bans smoking at virtually all indoor establishments except for casinos. The only other public indoor spaces in Michigan where people are allowed to smoke are cigar bars and similar retail establishments.
