The only live horse racing venue in Michigan has a full 2022 season on tap, as the Michigan Gaming Control Board has issued authorization to Northville Downs to offer 62 standardbred race dates in the coming year.

With the 2021 season set to end Dec. 18 — and with the worst of COVID hopefully in the rearview mirror — the 62-race season will begin Friday, March 11.

Horse racing fans can look forward to another year of live racing at Northville Downs, which has been a Michigan tradition since 1944,” Henry Williams, MGCB executive director, said in a press release.

With the season split into two sections, the first half will conclude Saturday, June 25. The second half will begin on Friday, Sept. 9, and run through Saturday, Dec. 17.

Races will be run on Friday and Saturdays, and in addition to the live races, Northville Downs will also be simulcasting races from across the country, with would-be bettors able to wager on the action.

The only days without simulcasting will be April 17, Nov. 24, Dec. 24, and Dec. 25.
