With no jackpot winner since April, the Mega Millions jackpot has ballooned to $1.05 billion. The next drawing for the popular lottery draw game comes Tuesday night.

Mega Millions tickets are available for purchase in 45 states, plus Washington, D.C. Michigan is one of the states that allows for the purchase of Mega Millions tickets, which cost $2 and can be purchased at lottery retailers across the state or online

To win the Mega Millions jackpot, a customer’s ticket must match the first five numbers drawn and the sixth number (the Mega Ball). The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.6 million.

If a player matches the first five numbers but not the sixth and final number, they win a $1 million prize. The odds of that happening are 1 in 12.6 million.

There are several other prize possibilities available within the game, ranging from $2 to $10,000.

Michigan Mega Millions winners

Despite the long odds, a Michigan Lottery club won a $1.05 billion Mega Millions jackpot in 2021. That remains the largest lottery jackpot winner in Michigan history.

There have been seven other Michigan customers to win $10 million or more playing Mega Millions, although all of those seven came between 2010-17, according to the Michigan Lottery’s database. A Michigan player won a $1 million prize playing Mega Millions on July 21.

A customer won $50,000 playing Mega Millions on Friday, with that ticket purchased in Dearborn.

While the Powerball jackpot isn’t as eye-popping as the Mega Millions jackpot — the Powerball jackpot is just under $100 million — a Michigan customer won $50,000 playing the Powerball on Monday.

Powerball drawings occur every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday, while Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesday and Friday.
