I had entirely too much fun playing Extra Chilli Megaways from Big Time Gaming at BetMGM’s online casino.

I fell into the oldest trap in the book: I won money, and then I tried to win more. And then when I lost money, I tried to win more. And then when I lost more money, I tried to win more.

About once a year or so I find myself “on tilt,” and this game did it to me. It’s an awesome, fun, bright, and poppy slot, and it grabbed me by the lapels and pulled me all the way in.

To be clear, there is no one to blame but myself for my actions. Without making a big fuss about it, we — as online slot players — need to know when to hold ‘em and know when to fold ‘em.

I needed to walk away. I needed to run. Instead, I kept mashing buttons.

Let me be the lesson to y’all, but don’t let me rain on this “chilli” parade. It’s fun. A ton of fun.

The facts

This is a Megaways slot, so there are literally 117,649 ways to win. So that’s good.

As far as symbols go, the chili peppers are worth the most — they’re fire, as the kids say — and purple ones are worth the most, followed by red, blue, and green. From there, it’s A-9.

Of course, this being a Megaways operation, there’s an extra reel in rows 2, 3, 4, and 5. Also, you don’t need your symbols to line up in a “row” to win. As long as they roll from left to right, reel-to-reel, you’re a winner.

Additionally, every win triggers a reaction, where the winning symbols are replaced with new symbols. This goes on until you lose.

The big money comes via the scatter symbols. Collect an “h,” an “o,” and a “t” and you’re off to the bonus round, where you’ll get eight free spins. And right here, things can get hairy, as you get the option to gamble those free spins. It’s all or nothing, so buyer beware. (You can win up to 24 free spins in total.)

During the free spins, you can win more free spins by picking up a trio of scatter symbols. Also, each win gets multiplied. The first win is 1x. The second is 2x. The third is 3x. Notice a pattern? There’s no limit to this, so keep winning, keep getting more and more multipliers.

Additionally, you can buy your way into the bonus round for 50x the price of your spin. That price gets lowered for every “feature drop” symbol you collect, which can be 10x to .5x your spin price. Spin the wheel enough times and you’ll collect a bunch of coins and will be able to buy your way into the bonus round on the cheap.

There’s a lot going on. Have I mentioned that it’s fun?

Look and feel

All right, now I’ve figured out why this game grabbed me: You feel like you’re on vacation. The bright colors are one thing, but when you first log on, you hear a street scene, the word “amigo” bandied about, and then when you start spinning, it’s pure mariachi band and it brings me back to Cancun or Playa del Carmen and that’s it.

See, all I want to do is be on a tropical vacation, and this game put me right in the mindset. Now I know why I got so hooked so quickly. (Thankfully, I don’t have to type the following: “It would’ve been cheaper to go on a tropical vacation.” I wasn’t down that bad!)

The results

Yeah, I lost. We’ve covered this already. Nothing to see here. But for real: If you don’t like this slot, you don’t like slots. That’s the review in a nutshell.
