Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot Tuesday, increasing the size of Friday’s jackpot to an estimated $1.35 billion. If a lottery player in Michigan wins the jackpot prize, it will be the largest prize ever won in the state, according to the Michigan Lottery.

While no players nationally won the jackpot on Tuesday, 11 players in Michigan won prizes of $10,000. Those winning tickets for the popular draw game were sold at retailers across the state, while a pair of winners played online

Friday’s drawing will take place at 11 p.m., and tickets can be purchased until 10:45 p.m. on Friday. Michiganders can purchase tickets online or at one of more than 10,000 lottery retailers across the state.

How to Play Mega Millions

To play Mega Millions, customers pick five different numbers from 1 to 70 (the white balls in the drawing) and one number from 1 to 25 (the gold ball in the drawing). To win the jackpot, customers must match all six numbers correctly. The odds of that happening are 1 in 302,575,350.

Matching the numbers for four white balls and the gold ball results in a $10,000 prize. Matching the number for all five white balls leads to a prize of $1 million. There are other smaller prizes as well, but no other combination leads to a prize of more than $1,000. Matching just the gold ball results in the smallest prize — $2.

The odds of winning any prize is 1 in 24, and it’s worth noting that Mega Millions tickets each cost $2. Customers can spend an extra $1 to add the “Megaplier,” which can multiply non-jackpot prizes up to five times.

Michigan’s lottery history

The last Mega Millions jackpot win in Michigan came in January 2021, when a lottery club won a jackpot of $1.05 billion. That win is the biggest prize ever won by a Michigan lottery player, and it’s the fifth-largest in U.S. lottery history, according to the Michigan Lottery.

In 2023, three Michigan Lottery players won prizes of at least $100,000. The largest winning prize was $1.15 million, which a player won in a Lotto 47 contest. Lotto 47 is a game that draws six numbers, and the winner of the $1.15 million in January matched all six numbers to win the jackpot prize.

In 2022, 48 Michigan Lottery players won prizes of at least $1 million. The largest prize won last year was $5.42 million, which occurred in September in a Lotto 47 contest. Two Michigan players won $1 million last April playing Mega Millions. They were the only two Michigan players to win at least $1 million last year playing Mega Millions.

Interestingly, Michiganders have seen past successes with Mega Millions drawings on Friday the 13th, with players from the state winning four jackpots on the date. The wins came in 2008, 2011, 2014, and 2017.
