The Four Winds Casino New Buffalo, a tribal property, last week opened a new sportsbook lounge where bets can be made.
The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians announced the new space, which features 22 televisions in total, at the right time. The casino told MLive.com in a statement that it is seeing “growing demand for sports betting in Michigan.”
“We are very excited to welcome guests to our new Sportsbook Lounge at Four Winds New Buffalo to meet the growing demand for sports betting in Michigan,” said Frank Freedman, the COO of Four Winds Casinos. “We feel the layout, design and finishes will provide guests with the right ambiance, comfortable seating options and great views of multiple screens to enjoy a refreshing beverage or cocktail while cheering for their favorite teams.”
The new space is located near the Timbers restaurant inside the property.
The opening was timely for the casino, as the NFL season kicked off this week. Some people in the state have been betting on the Detroit Lions to have a really good year, which is almost like free money for the sportsbooks in the state. The team is expected to be one of the worst in the league, but there should still be plenty of money flowing at sportsbooks.
The casino took its ceremonial first sports bet back in the summer of 2020 from a prominent former Chicago Bears player. Online sports betting began in January.
Why a Chicago player for a sportsbook in Michigan? The Windy City is reachable by car in an hour and 20 minutes. Four Winds New Buffalo is located on the southwestern tip of Michigan.
